WEEKLY FANTASY PICKS: Make your NASCAR team a Monster

By Stevie Young, Rotogrinders.com

DOVER, Del. – The Monster Mile is one of my favorite racetracks, and with qualifying being rained out, we have a ton of great plays in fantasy. I will be focusing on picks for 50/50 and double up games, and I hope to keep the hot streak rolling here. Dover is a very different track, and I hardly ever compare it to other tracks. I like average running position, and I think it’s a great race to rely on past data. They’re running the spring race a little earlier this year, and it’s suppose to be pretty cool at the track on Sunday.

Kevin Harvick – $10,400 – Fantasy NASCAR runs through Harvick this weekend, and I’m expecting him to lead a lot of laps. I’m going to pair Jimmie Johnson with Harvick a lot this weekend, but Harvick is still my top tier stud this weekend. He’s led at least 90 laps in three straight races here, and over 220 in two of the last three. He has four top ten finishes out of the last six races, and the second highest driver rating over the last three spring races. Harvick has the benefit of having the best pit stall this weekend, and hopefully the pit issues this year doesn’t cost him any dominator points this weekend.

Joey Logano – $9,600 – Like I said with Harvick, I’m going to pair him a lot with Johnson this weekend. Logano starting 22nd, is in a great spot for place differential points this weekend. He has finished 11th or better in eight straight races here, but has only led one career lap in 14 career starts. Logano isn’t anything flashy, but he’s a safer option this weekend, and I don’t expect him to be very popular because of his limited upside. If Harvick dominates the race like he did last fall, place differential plays are going to be key to having a nice day.

Brad Keselowski – $8,900 – I don’t expect Keselowski to be popular this weekend, but I think he’s way under priced here. Starting 14th, I think people will overlook his upside potential here. Keselowski has run really well here, and has four top five finishes in the last seven races. I don’t talk about it a lot in NASCAR, but price point plays are very popular in daily fantasy. This is a prime example of a price point play, and he should never be under 9k on DraftKings. He has the seventh highest driver rating over the last three spring races.

Tony Stewart – $7,400 – I love Larson in this price range as well, but I think Stewart is the better play for 50/50s this weekend. Stewart is coming off his worst season, but he’s put together two top twenty finishes since returning from injury. With Dover it’s all about track position, and being able close, Stewart has the best closer rating among active drivers here. Stewart won at Dover in 2013, and even in his struggles last season, he finished 16th in the spring race. He’s a very solid option with his 34th starting position this weekend.

Danica Patrick – $6,200 – Danica has actually been one of my favorite drivers to target this season, and I’m going back to the well this weekend. She’s starting 31st this weekend, and she’s never finished worst than 31st here. She has positive place differential in six of seven career races here, and looks like she’s in a good spot to pick up 5 to 15 place differential points. The key to Dover is trying to figure out who can stay on the lead lap, and Danica has a lot better equipment than most of the bottom ten.
