FANTASY NASCAR: Get lucky with these Irish Hills picks

By @Stevietpfl,

This weekend we head to the 2-mile D-Shaped oval in Michigan. Before I get into my picks for the weekend, I want to say congratulations to Jerry Jordan on his three awards from the Press Club of Southeast Texas. Every time I see Jerry, he’s always working hard, and it’s always nice to see hard work pay off. With 200-laps this weekend, we will want to target one to two dominators, and then fill in with some place differential plays. I’m going to be focusing on five drivers I like for 50/50s and double ups.

Kevin Harvick – $10,600 – Harvick is starting 29th this weekend, and a couple cautions during the first round of qualifying really hurt him. Where qualifying 29th might not be good for his team, it’s great for us playing daily fantasy NASCAR. By now, everyone knows Harvick dominates at Phoenix, and like Phoenix, Michigan is a D-Shaped oval. He’s finished 2nd in five of the last six races here, and he has the highest driver rating over the last four races. Harvick is averaging 67.4 DraftKings points this season, and Truex is the next closest at 53.8. There’s no reason not to have Harvick in your cash lineups this weekend.

Joey Logano – $9,800 – I highly recommend playing Logano with Harvick in cash games this weekend. Since joining team Penske, Logano has six straight top ten finishes, and he won this race from the pole in August of 2013. He has the sixth highest driver rating here, but the second highest behind Kevin Harvick over the last four races here. Logano is still without his win this season, and he’s been knocking on the door all season. He’s my top dominator target for cash games this weekend. I’m expecting him to get out front early, and we’ve seen how great clean air is for these cars. Not only will he be starting out front, he also has the best pit stall for this weekend.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. – $9,400 – This team has been up and down a lot this season, but the struggles on Friday, really makes him a great play. Starting 27th adds a really solid floor for him, and makes him a pretty safe option for cash games. With NASCAR, there’s no such thing as a fully safe option. He comes in with four straight top ten finishes here. He runs a lot of laps in the top 15 here, and he has the second best driver rating over the last three June races here. This is a track he’s exceled at before and I expect him to do the same this weekend.

Paul Menard – $6,300 – Menard struggled with qualifying on Friday, and he’s going to start 32nd on Sunday. He has an average finish of seven over his last four races here. He’s finished 14th or better in seven straight races here, and he hasn’t finished worse than 26th here since joining RCR in 2011. The struggles have been there for Menard’s team all season, but they will look to get back on track this weekend. Menard looked good in the XFINITY race on Saturday, and I’m hoping the extra track time helps him on Sunday.

Aric Almirola – $6,400 – This isn’t Almirola’s best track, but I’m having a hard time overlooking his starting position of 30th. In eight career races here, his worse finish is 31st. If he finishes 22nd or better, he will end up with at least 30 fantasy points this weekend. He’s finished 22nd or better in seven of eight career races here, and I think he has a very solid floor for cash games. He started 30th last August and ended up finishing 14th. He’s a guy that I play a lot, and I like him a lot this weekend.

Good luck this weekend, if you have any questions, feel free to hit me up @Stevietpfl on Twitter.
