For the first time this season, Sam Hornish Jr. will start from the pole position in a NASCAR XFINITY Series race. Hornish will start up front alongside Owen Kelly on Saturday afternoon at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course.

Hornish’s lap time was 84.346 seconds to Kelly’s 84.784 at a speed of 96.374 mph.

Ryan Blaney – the only Sprint Cup Series regular in the field this weekend – was third quickest. Elliott Sadler and Daniel Suarez rounded out the top five.

Hornish wrapped up a day where he showed tremendous speed. In the first practice session, he was second fastest to Ty Dillon. Hornish was then quickest in final practice, beating out Ryan Reed and Nelson Piquet Jr. for the top spot.

This is Hornish’s third race of the season and second with Richard Childress Racing. He won at Iowa Speedway last June in his first NASCAR race this year.

This weekend’s event begins Saturday, August 13th at 3:30PM ET.
