Kevin Harvick to pilot second Stewart-Haas Racing XFINITY entry for select 2017 races
- Updated: January 5, 2017
Just one day after announcing that he’ll be in the booth with FOX Sports for five NASCAR XFINITY Series races in 2017, Kevin Harvick has been confirmed to make a few appearances behind the wheel in the series, too.
Harvick was announced as the driver of a second entry for Stewart-Haas Racing’s (SHR) new Xfinity Series program in 2017, confirming four starts with sponsorship from made-to-order pizza brand Hunt Brothers Pizza.
The starts will come on April 8 at Texas Motor Speedway, May 27 at Charlotte Motor Speedway, July 7 at Kentucky Speedway and Sept. 2 at Darlington Raceway.
Harvick will pilot the No. 41 Ford in the events, joining teammate Cole Custer in the No. 00 to fill out the team’s roster.
“I’ve always enjoyed competing in the XFINITY Series,” Harvick said. “With Stewart-Haas Racing starting a new program, I’m excited to be a part of the building process because it will make us stronger going forward as a company. I’m proud to continue working with Hunt Brothers Pizza and seeing their colors on my Ford Mustang.”
Per a tweet from the 2014 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series champ, there may be more announced races in the future.
“And more to come!,” the tweet reads, in response to a tweet from Catchfence.com‘s Chris Knight listing Harvick’s announced Xfinity Series schedule.
The announcement continues a six-year relationship between Hunt Brothers Pizza and Harvick, dating back to 2011, when the two-time Xfinity Series champion competed with Richard Childress Racing. The company, which moved over with Harvick to SHR in 2015, will also join Custer as an associate sponsor as the 19-year-old competes for rookie of the year honors.
“NASCAR has been a strong platform for Hunt Brothers Pizza thanks to the roles Kevin Harvick and Stewart-Haas Racing have played in representing our brand,” said Keith Solsvig, vice president of marketing, Hunt Brothers Pizza. “NASCAR fans love to travel and visit convenience stores. We want to continue to show our appreciation to our store partners and their consumers. Having our own Hunt Brothers Pizza Ford Mustang on the racetrack with a partner like Kevin is a great way to showcase how we constantly strive for excellence.”
The announcement confirms that SHR will field a second entry in the Xfinity Series on at least a part-time basis. Any additional starts for Harvick or any other drivers are unannounced at this time.
