Atlanta, New Hampshire make friendly SB wager on Falcons-Pats

If you see an Atlanta Falcons flag hanging outside New Hampshire Motor Speedway in the near future, it means NHMS lost a bet.
And if you see a New England Patriots one hoisted at Atlanta Motor Speedway, you’ll know the Falcons didn’t get it done … again.
The two race tracks from the Speedway Motorsports Inc. family are involved in a wager – a friendly one — as Super Bowl LI between the Falcons and Patriots looms. New Hampshire Motor Speedway executive vice president and general manager David McGrath and Atlanta Motor Speedway president and general manager Ed Clark have more than a flag at stake. They have put everything from lobster and peaches to premium race tickets on the line for the Feb. 5 title game.
If the Falcons win, their team flag will fly over the NHMS office building the following two days and during the New Hampshire 301 NASCAR race week July 10-16. McGrath will present Clark and the winner of the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 race on March 5 with New England lobster in Victory Lane while decked out in a Falcons garb. Four Falcons and AMS fans will win premium tickets, a $500 value, to the July 16 New Hampshire 301 at NHMS.
This is the Falcons’ second appearance since 1999, when they lost to Denver in Super Bowl XXXIII.
“We are so proud of our friends at the Atlanta Falcons for making it to the NFL’s biggest game of the year, and to David, I say, ‘You’re on’,” Clark said. “We can’t wait to watch our team knock off [Tom] Brady, [Bill] Belichick and the Patriots and bring their first title home to Georgia. Most of all, I look forward to seeing David wearing a Falcons jersey, lobster in hand, in Victory Lane here at Atlanta Motor Speedway on March 5.”
If the Pats are victorious, their flag will be hung outside Atlanta Motor Speedway office for the next two days as well as during the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 on Feb. 27-March 5. It will be Clark’s turn to present McGrath and the July 16 New Hampshire 301 race victor with Georgia peaches in winner’s circle while donning Patriots jersey. Also, four Patriots and NHMS fans will earn premium tickets worth $400 to go to the Folds of Honor QuikTrip 500 race at AMS on March 5.
Brady and Belichick will be playing in an NFL-record seventh Super Bowl together and New England is the NFL’s first franchise to appear in nine overall. The duo is 4-2 on the NFL’s biggest stage.
“I mean, come on. Tom Brady? Bill Belichick? Do I need to say anything more?” McGrath said. “The Patriots have become synonymous with winning championships. It’s what they do. So, if Ed wants some of our famous New England lobster, he’s going to have to fly up here to get it because I’m winning this bet – and I can’t wait to enjoy some delicious Georgia peach cobbler while we celebrate another New England title.”
