For the first time in nearly two years, X Games and action sports ace Travis Pastrana is set to return to NASCAR competition with part-time Camping World Truck Series team Niece Motorsports in an upcoming test and race.

Pastrana, 33, will join the team for the first time on May 2, participating in a Truck series test at Charlotte Motor Speedway. The Annapolis, Maryland native will then return to the No. 45 Chevrolet for the Sept 30 Rhino Linings 350 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Primary sponsorship for the one-off run will come from Wienerschnitzel.

“I love NASCAR, and Las Vegas is always a good time, so I’m really looking forward to racing there later this season,” Pastrana said in a release. “The seat time at Charlotte will be a huge help for me to get up to speed and for the team to get a solid base setup for when we show up to race later in the year.

“I’ve actually worked with several of the people on this team in the past. It’s a fun group and we have a good rapport.”

Pastrana made his NASCAR XFINITY Series debut in 2012 with Michael Waltrip Racing after missing his planned 2011 entrance due to a broken right ankle and foot in X Games competition. To date, the action sports star has tallied 56 starts in NASCAR competition, including a full-season run with Roush Fenway Racing in the XFINITY Series in 2013.

The most recent start for Pastrana came in 2015 – a 16th-place result in a Truck series race at Las Vegas.

“NASCAR is something that challenges me,” Pastrana said. “I’ve done a lot of work over the past couple of years to try and improve my pavement skills. I’m racing my first full year of Rally since 2010, and I’m fresh off my first win in over a year, so it’s really exciting to be able to get behind the wheel again and see what we can do in the Truck Series.”
