CONTEXT / BACKGROUND

Technology in motorsports has continued to expand and Ford has increased its commitment on race weekends through a new Tech Trailer that debuted last October at Dover.  This mobile unit travels to all 36 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series races and serves as home base for manufacturer personnel to gather and process information throughout practice, qualifying and the race.  In this video that runs 1 minute and 47 seconds, Ford Performance officials and team representatives talk about the importance of having a technical support system at the track.

QUOTING

“I would say that technology is here as much as any other form of motorsports, maybe in a different way, but the amount of engineering that goes into these cars, the amount of data, and the amount of analysis that is used grows more and more every day, and it takes a lot to keep up with it and stay ahead.”

Mark Rushbrook

Ford Performance

Motorsports Engineering Manager

“I can tell you before the trailer was there the struggle that we had with networks and sharing information, getting the technology that’s available into the hands of the guys who actually need to apply it and make the car better, was really a battle for us.  This is something that everybody discussed as a priority.  Ford stepped up and made the Tech Trailer happen and it’s something that we’re able to realize the gains from every weekend.”

Travis Geisler

NASCAR Competition Director

Team Penske

“It’s really a One Ford effort.  We work directly in engine development in Ford Performance with Roush Yates Engines at the engine shop.  We confer directly with all the tuners and anything that can make all the Fords more competitive we’ll take advantage of that.  The capabilities that are within this trailer when the day comes where we can do telemetry and other active data analysis, this trailer is fully capable of doing it.”
