Monster Mile Not Messing Around With Fence Climber

By Jerry Jordan, Editor

DOVER, Del. – It wasn’t fake news or a replay of Richmond International Raceway from a few years ago, someone really did climb the fence in Turn 4 during the closing laps of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Dover International Raceway and when he finally came down, he was “rapidly apprehended.”

As the laps ticked down under a late caution, fans in Turn 4 began Tweeting photos of a person sitting atop the fence over the track, which prompted some to think the pics were fake because NASCAR officials never addressed it over their public radio channels. However, a NASCAR spokesperson confirmed the climber was real and NASCAR security, along with CSC (Contemporary Security Corporation) guards took John Infanti into custody and turned him over to Dover police officers.

“While being taken into custody, Infanti refused to comply with officers’ commands, kicking one of them in the knee during the process,” states a release from the Dover Police Department. The incident occurred at approximately 4:58 p.m. The checkered flag fell in the AAA 400 at 5:25 p.m.

According to the Dover Police Department, Infanti, 43, of Greenwood, Del. is facing multiple charges, including 2nd degree trespassing, disorderly conduct, felony resisting arrest with force and offensive touching of law enforcement.
