On the Tuesday following each regular season points race, Kickin’ the Tires takes a deep look at the current playoff grids for both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series, evaluating the postseason picture for NASCAR’s second and third tours.

XFINITY Series

Track: New Hampshire Motor Speedway

Event: Overton’s 200

Race Winner: Kyle Busch

Stage Winner(s): Erik Jones, Ryan Blaney

Who Won Big

  • Brennan Poole: It was another quiet, consistent day for Poole, but his consistency continued to pay off as the Chip Ganassi Racing prospect hopped Daniel Hemric for fourth in the championship standings.
  • Part-Timers: There wasn’t much else to say for the XFINITY Series regulars in terms of gains. The Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series drivers and part-timers Ryan Preece and Ben Kennedy owned the day, taking six of the top eight spots in the grid.

 Who Hurt Their Odds:

  • Justin Allgaier: He’s already in the playoffs with bonus points after an early win at Phoenix Raceway, but Allgaier’s 32nd-place finish was enough to trap him 90 points out from leader Elliott Sadler, and 45 markers behind William Byron.
  • Dakoda Armstrong: He’s still safely in the playoff field as things stand, but runs like Saturday’s 24th-place struggle put Armstrong at risk of falling back into the playoff bubble over the summer.
