Longtime NASCAR crew chief, Slugger Labbe, announced on Wednesday that he will be joining Toyota Racing and Toyota Racing Development as a manager of teams and vehicle support.

“I am excited to go to work for Toyota Racing and Toyota Racing Development as a manager of teams and vehicle support. What that means is that Toyota Racing supports many racing divisions and teams. I get to work with many of those Toyota race teams,” Labbe told SiriusXM NASCAR Radio’s “The Morning Drive”. “ It’s going to be a challenge working for a OEM after being in NASCAR for 32 years. Working with the various racing divisions of Toyota motorsports through TRD. It’s a very exciting challenge for me. I am looking forward to it.”

Toyota Racing Development provides technical support to all their motorsports teams. Labbe will be the manager of that support and lead the support in the direction of what teams specifically need.

Labbe started the 2017 season as the crew chief for Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Richard Childress Racing Chevrolet in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. It was announced in May before the Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway that Labbe would be vacating that role. Labbe has been the crew chief for Terry Labonte, Michel Waltrip, Jeremy Mayfield, Dale Jarrett, and numerous other drivers.

During the interim, Labbe has filled in as a guest analyst for Motor Racing Network and NASCAR on NBC’s “NASCAR America” television program.
