JOLIET, Il – The No. 78 car of Martin Truex Jr. took three extra tries to get passed NASCAR pre-race inspection at Chicagoland Speedway, setting him up to serve a penalty next week when the series arrives at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.

Joe Garone, president of competition at Furniture Row Racing, confirmed the failures but explained they had to do some trial and error to figure out exactly what areas were out of tolerance.

“It was just the normal process,” Garone said. “First time we went through we had a plate that was misaligned on the wheel, so we didn’t get a good reading on the LIS (Laser Inspection Station) and had to go back through. Had a small template issue, so we didn’t know where the LIS was, so we couldn’t adjust it and we went back through and then the LIS was off.”

Garone also said the No. 77 had similar issues going through pre-race inspection.

“It was just literally nothing more than that,” he said. “It will be a penalty next week. The 77 had similar issues but a little bit different.”

Per the NASCAR rulebook, Truex will have to sit out of final practice next week at New Hampshire for 30-minutes.
