After a dominant season with Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM), Christopher Bell will take a step up to the NASCAR XFINITY Series in 2018.

Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) announced on Friday that Bell, 22, will drive for the team’s XFINITY Series program in 2018.

“Christopher has proven himself at every level of racing and we are excited to have him run full-time in our Xfinity Series program starting in 2018,” JGR owner Joe Gibbs said in a statement. “He has shown great maturity both on and off the track and we think he is ready for this opportunity. We look forward to watching his continued progress in the sport.”

A native of Norman, Oklahoma, Bell arrived on the NASCAR scene in 2015 in a part-time stint that included a win for KBM at Eldora Speedway after years of competing on dirt – he was declared USAC National Midget Champion in 2013 – and on asphalt in Super Late Models.

Bell has seven Truck Series victories in 48 career starts, including five wins this season. He currently holds the No. 1 seed in the Truck Series playoffs.

Next season won’t mark Bell’s XFINITY Series debut. JGR gave Bell a part-time run on the tour this season, with the prospect earning a top five in his series debut at Charlotte Motor Speedway in May.

“I can’t express how excited I am about the opportunity to drive full-time for Joe Gibbs Racing in the Xfinity Series,” Bell said. “This has been a tremendous year for me and obviously I remain focused on finishing the Truck Series season strong and hopefully bringing a championship to Kyle, Samantha and everyone at Kyle Busch Motorsports. I don’t think I could ask for a better place to take the next step in my racing career. I’m already comfortable with everyone at JGR and I think the experience I have with them this year should help me at the start of 2018.”

Additional details for Bell’s upcoming season – including car number, team members and sponsors – will be announced at a later date.
