As his final farewell as a full-time Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver comes to a close in four races, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and his team have interest in  the idea of writing a book reflecting on his career.

Earnhardt is not new to the book scene. In 2002, Earnhardt collaborated with Jade Gurss to discuss about his first full-time season at NASCAR’s premier level. The book discussed the emotional rollercoaster of losing his father in the Daytona 500 to carrying a sport through its most difficult time.

“I wrote that book with Jade Gurss, ‘Driver No. 8’ about that first season. Lots of great stories there, behind the scenes stuff that either doesn’t make it into some of the interviews we do with the media or the things we do that fans would be interested about,” said Earnhardt.

Since the book, Earnhardt has experienced numerous changes throughout his career with his fallout at Dale Earnhardt Incorporated to being sidelined for half of the season in 2016 due to concussion issues. The premise of the book would discuss his recovery from his concussion to this final season.

My recovery and my experiences last year trying to get well and then coming back and running this final season. I think it is a bit assuming to think you can write a book anytime you want. I think that will be a good read.”

The book would go deeper into the recovery process discussing things that were never mentioned in interviews with media, something Earnhardt believes people will be interested in. Interest in writing the book comes from the idea of helping others going through the issues Earnhardt went through.

“I think there is a lot of things in there that didn’t come up in interviews. There is a little bit deeper than the story goes that people would be interested in. The interest for me there is that it would help someone going through the same experiences I went through.”

Although the idea of writing another book has been discussed, Earnhardt mentioned there are numerous other projects being discussed.

“We will see what interest there is in that and move forward. There is a lot of little projects on the table and talk through discussions in the office amongst our brand team. That is certainly one of them.”
