Justin Allgaier will have an extra challenge fighting for a championship as his crew chief, Jason Burdett, has been suspended for the Ford EcoBoost 300 this weekend at Homestead-MIami Speedway.

In post-race inspection at Phoenix Raceway, NASCAR found a rear brake cooling assembly issue on the No. 7 JR Motorsports. According to Section 20.15.2.2 of the NASCAR Rule Book, the rear brake cooling assemblies must be sealed from air inlet to exhaust.

The 10th place finish at Phoenix has also been deemed encumbered. HIs team has also been assessed the loss of 10 championship driver and owner points. This penalty will not change his eligibility for a championship. Burdett was also fined $10,000.

This is the second year in a row where a driver at JR Motorsports will be without their regular crew chief. Last year, Elliott Sadler lost his crew chief for having more than one loose lug nut at Phoenix.

NASCAR will announce other penalties on Tuesday or Wednesday of this week. This penalty was announced because it was already found and for the possibility of an appeal by JR Motorsports.

On Tuesday, JR Motorsports announced they would not appeal the penalty. The organization also announced that Billy WIlburn will be the crew chief for Allgaier this weekend. Wilburn currently serves as the car chief for the No. 7.
