Dale Earnhardt Jr. will have to start in the rear of Sunday’s Ford EcoBoost 400 at Homestead-Miami Speedway following an engine change.

Earnhardt and the No. 88 team cut final practice short after a piston was found burned in the engine. The team decided this was the time to change the engine. Earnhardt ended up 14th on the leaderboard at 169.646 mph.

“The motor broke on the car. We are going to fix it. We won’t run anymore laps in practice,” said Earnhardt in a Twitter video.

The team has opted to qualify for pit stall selection, despite starting in the rear.
