HOMESTEAD, Fla. – After months of waiting, NASCAR and Goodyear have inked a deal that will make the Akron, Ohio-based rubber company the “Official Tire of NASCAR” in a new partnership deal, Kickin’ the Tires has confirmed.

Goodyear will also remain as the tire of choice for all of NASCAR’s race teams.

The announcement is scheduled to be made at 9:15 a.m. at Homestead-Miami Speedway and comes after months of negotiations between the two companies. In 2011, the company was named the “Exclusive Tire Supplier” of NASCAR’s top three touring series.

At that time, Pierre Jambon, Goodyear’s then vice-president of off-highway business, said, “This extension is the continuation of a relationship between experts. NASCAR is clearly the expert in stock car racing, and it has chosen Goodyear because of our expertise in delivering outstanding performance. Our tire performance on the track validates our brand, inspires confidence for drivers and helps create exciting racing for fans. We are proud to continue to be an integral part of NASCAR.”

The new deal moves that relationship into an official partnership role, said a source with knowledge of the arrangement. The last contract between Goodyear and NASCAR was finalized in October 2011 and it was set to expire at the end of 2017. Goodyear has been the exclusive tire supplier since 1997.

There were rumors NASCAR had been negotiating with other tire manufacturers but Goodyear officials had, on numerous occasions, already confirmed they were building tires for 2018. Just a few weeks ago, company officials discussed their plans for which tire they were planning to use for the new Charlotte Motor Speedway road course, known as the Roval.

Representatives from NASCAR and Goodyear both declined to comment for this story.
