Will Rodgers partners with Spacestation Gaming in eNASCAR competition

NASCAR Xfinity Series driver Will Rodgers has teamed with established eSports team, Spacestation Gaming, in eNASCAR competition.

Rodgers will compete in a Spacestation Gaming sponsored car in the eNASCAR Saturday Night Thunder at Bristol Motor Speedway as well as future eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series qualifiers. On iRacing, the Maui, HI native has 437 oval starts with 68 wins. He also has 173 top-five finishes and 61 pole positions.

Spacestation Gaming has teams that compete in eSports competitions for Rainbow Six Siege, PUBG, Apex Legends, and Rocket League among others. Spacestation’s roster won the World Championship in Rainbow Six Siege, and fourth in the World Championship for Rocket League.

Spacestation Gaming and Rodgers plan to expand into the eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series competition. Currently, 20 teams, with two drivers each, compete in the series representing endemic teams such as JR Motorsports and Joe Gibbs Racing. eSports teams such as Jim Beaver eSports and Mode Media House are also represented.

“I’m excited to be partnering with Spacestation Gaming and starting a new eNASCAR team,” explained Rodgers. “With all of Spacestation’s successes in other gaming platforms, I know we will build a winning combination on and off the track.”

The eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series debuted on Fox Sports 1 two weeks ago at the virtual Homestead-Miami Speedway. After breaking the record for viewership of an eSports event on network TV, the Pro Invitational Series shattered the record at the virtual Texas Motor Speedway.

iRacing, a motorsports simulation subscription service laser scans racecars and tracks to within millimeter accuracy. That accuracy has made iRacing and it’s eNASCAR, IndyCar, and World of Outlaws simulations extremely realistic.

Spacestation Gaming co-owner Shaun “Shoduras” McBride explained just how similar sports and eSports can be:

“Traditional sports and esports can be incredibly similar, and eNASCAR proves that perfectly!! Spacestation Gaming is excited to help build this new community and be long-term supporters of this rapidly growing scene!”

While Spacestation Gaming is a championship-winning eSports organization, it is not the first to be a part of eNASCAR competition. In addition to Jim Beaver eSports and Mode Media House, eNASCAR has played host to teams representing G2 eSports, Burton-Kligerman eSports, Letarte eSports, Richmond Raceway eSports, and the Virtual Racing School.

“This partnership is very unique and will be mixing an Esports organization fanbase with a NASCAR fanbase,” admitted Shawn Pellerin, Spacestation Gaming co-owner. “Showcasing Esports to a more mainstream audience and educating NASCAR fans that Esports exists.”

The eNASCAR Coca-Cola iRacing Series is entering is in its’ 11th season. Other official eNASCAR offerings on iRacing include the eNASCAR Ignite Series, eNASCAR iRacing Road to Pro, eNASCAR Pro Series. Other eNASCAR leagues include the Leaf Filter Gutter Protection iRacing Replacements Series co-founded by spotter Kevin Hamlin and TJ Majors.

Spacestation Gaming co-owner Sean Holladay explained that the partnership will help expand the fanbase for both NASCAR and eSports:

“This partnership is exciting coming into this scene as an eSports organization fanbase with a legacy brand and fanbase like NASCAR. Showcasing eSports to a more mainstream audience and educating NASCAR fans is something we are really looking forward to.”

The eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series is back in action Sunday, April 5 at 1:00 pm Eastern from the virtual Bristol Motor Speedway simulcast on FOX and Fox Sports 1.
