Austin Dillon 2020 Cup Series season preview

As the NASCAR Cup Series season approaches, Kickin’ the Tires takes a look at Richard Childress Racing’s driver of the No. 3 Chevrolet, Austin Dillon.

Austin Dillon enters 2020 for his seventh full-time season behind the No. 3 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing.

Over nine years and 229 NASCAR Cup Series starts heading into next month’s season-opener, Dillon has tallied up two wins including one Daytona 500 trophy, six poles, 11 top-five and 40 top-10 finishes.

The North Carolina native won the 2018 Daytona 500 in over-time for his second-career win at NASCAR’s highest tier. 

2019 had it’s ups and downs finish wise for the 29-year old who went on to finish the season winless, with three poles, six top-10s and 14 top-15 finishes.

Dillon’s best finish of his 2019 campaign was sixth twice coming at Richmond Raceway in the Spring and Talladega Superspeedway in the fall.

In addition, he saw himself finishing 21st in the drivers points standings following the season-finale at Homestead Miami Speedway last November.

Dillon will make his 14th Cup start at the 2.5-mile Daytona International Speedway next month. He’s tallied up one win, two top-five and 7 top-10 finishes in Cup competition.

In last year’s season opener, he finished in the 16th position after starting The Great American Race 20th on the starting grid.

The NASCAR Cup Series season opener Daytona 500 will take place on Sunday February 16 at 2:30 p.m. live on Fox.
