Big Changes Proposed for 2021 NASCAR Schedule

By Jerry Jordan, Editor

The recent phenomena of the West Coast Swing will come after back-to-back races in Florida with Homestead-Miami Speedway coming a week after the season-opening Daytona 500, according to a proposed 2021 schedule first-reported by Chris Knight at Catchfence.com. But that’s not all, the proposed schedule has a host of other changes that will shake up the travel schedule of NASCAR Cup Series teams.

A hot and slick Texas Motor Speedway will get the All-Star Race on June 13 and Atlanta Motor Speedway will return to two races. Additionally, as previously reported, Kentucky Speedway comes off the schedule and Darlington Raceway picks up a second date with a race in May as Dover International Speedway cuts back to one race. The biggest changes appear to be the addition of Road America in Wisconsin, Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Tx. and the road course at Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Still in place is the doubleheader weekend at Pocono Raceway and season-finale at Phoenix International Raceway. Texas also moves to a kickoff race in the final round of the playoffs and off of the troublesome opening day of hunting season that has plagued attendance for years.

While this schedule is proposed at this time, NASCAR is expected to release the final schedule tomorrow in a press conference as several other tracks make major announcements.
