Bubba Wallace Nabs Top 5 in Late Daytona Comeback

By: Zach Catanzareti, Staff Writer

Bubba Wallace sent shock waves through the Florida property when he sent his No. 43 Chevrolet three-wide for the lead with seven laps to go.

And though an accident sparked just seconds later, Wallace wasn’t down and out just yet.

While going for the lead in dramatic fashion, Wallace’s Richard Petty Motorsports Chevrolet suffered damage in the Big One that occurred alongside him in Turn 2.

Keeping his car straight, Wallace pitted for repairs and lined up 20th for the restart with two laps to go.

And taking the white flag in 16th, Wallace barreled up the outside lane on the backstretch to avoid two wrecks and land himself fifth at the checkered flag a half a lap later.

The result was his first top five of 2020 and career-high-extending fifth top 10 of the year. His previous top-five result came at the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway in 2019.
