After two years of waiting, the NASCAR Cup Series was able to honor the letter of a young fan – whose mother was battling breast cancer at the time – by racing with pink window nets at the running of the Bank of America ROVAL™ 400 (The ROVAL) at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
In September of 2019, veteran driver Kurt Busch received a handwritten letter from a young fan by the name of Mason Bradley. Bradley’s mother was battling breast cancer two years ago, and is now in remission, but Bradley’s letter included an idea and a drawing of Busch’s No. 1 car that “maybe you could do the window net pink.” The pink window net was an inspiration to support others struggling through the battle of breast cancer. The note and idea took off with Busch leading the way with trying to make the young fan’s request a reality.
2020 brought a season of challenges across the world, and the hopes of the pink window nets were put on hold. Some thought the letter and idea were forgotten until support from NASCAR, The NASCAR Foundation and Thermal Control (producers and providers of the pink window nets), the series announced that the “Window of Hope” would finally become a reality at the ROVAL. Part of the initiative featured an online auction of each participating driver’s window net. Nets would be autographed and shipped to the winning bidder on eBay, an online action website. All proceeds from each window net would be used to assist with “out-of-pocket expenses associated with providing care for families currently facing a breast cancer diagnosis,” according to NASCAR.com and The NASCAR Foundation.
Bidding ended on October 21, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Below is a table breaking down the results of each driver’s window net eBay auction.
