Harrison Burton turns things around at Texas Motor Speedway

JUSTIN, Tx – After an incredible run of 10 Top 10s with two wins early in the season, Harrison Burton hit a roadblock over the past five races but Saturday afternoon at Texas Motor Speedway he was back it championship-style form pulling out of the Lone Star state with a fourth-place showing.

Burton said it was nice to turn things around as the past few weeks:

  • A Talladega Superspeedway crash resulting in a 32nd place finish
  • A Pocono Raceway crash that left him in 32nd place, again
  • A tough run at the Indianapolis Grand Prix that resulted in a 25th place finish
  • Two mediocre finishes at the Kentucky Speedway doubleheader of 17th and 12th

But mediocre is not good enough for the rookie of the year candidate and contender for the 2020 Xfinity Series Championship. He wants to see his Joe Gibbs Racing No. 20 DEX Imaging Toyota in Victory Lane, again. The two wins he earned earlier this year at Auto Club Speedway and Homestead-Miami Speedway locked him into the post-regular season playoffs. But he wants more wins to help pad his points total when the playoff elimination rounds begin.

“It was great to turn the momentum back in the right direction,” he told Kickin’ the Tires after the race. “Wish we could have come out with a ‘W’ but we are headed back in the right direction.”

The Texas turnaround was important and now Burton takes that momentum with him into next weekend’s action at Kansas Speedway. It’s a track where his only previous Xfinity Series start ended with a crash that left him in 34th place. However, in 2019, he scored a Top 10 in the NASCAR Gander RV and Outdoors Trucks Series. The race at Kansas goes green at 4 p.m. CST next Saturday.
