FORT WORTH, Texas – They say to just run your own race to get good results, and so far this year, it’s proven a good start to the season for Matt DiBenedetto.
After starting the 2022 NASCAR Camping World Truck Series with two top 10 finishes, the No. 25 Rackley Roofing WAR Shocks Chevrolet Silverado found its way into another consecutive streak of top 10 results after their race at Texas Motor Speedway.
“For some reason, the truck was down on power throughout the race and got worse on the straightaway,” DiBenedetto shared after the Speedycash.com 220. “The truck ran great through the corners, drove good and didn’t have to do much throughout the race. We hung in there and used the draft, didn’t make any mistakes and wound up 10th.”
In their sophomore year, Rackley WAR Racing signed DiBenedetto to become their first full-time driver. As is true with most new teams, many behind the scenes run multiple jobs and responsibilities to get their trucks ready for competition. The old school tactics are still pulling good results for their team to keep them in the hunt for a Playoff spot later this year.
“We’ve had a lot of races with lots of bad circumstances, some self-inflicted stuff. We broke at Circuit of the Americas twice, lots of other hiccups. Things that just put us back in points and that’s tough. If we just get some consistency and start clicking off some good races. We don’t have the speed of some of the top trucks. We’re not quite a winning truck yet, but we’re a small team with everyone wearing multiple hats. We don’t have an engineer, but we’re making every effort we can.”
At the conclusion of the Speedycash.com 220, they sit 67 points outside of a Playoff spot. A win locks them in, and DiBenedetto has one upcoming track circled: Sonoma Raceway. It will be the first time the Truck series will race there since 1998, 24 years ago. DiBenedetto feels his experience from the NASCAR Cup Series will give him the edge he needs to lock himself into the Playoffs, and looking at the rest of the full-time drivers, only John Hunter Nemechek has Sonoma experience.
“I love road course racing,” DiBenedetto stated. “That would be one I would circle off for us. If we can get there was a good handling truck, we’ll have a good shot. But this is one I’m looking forward to the most.”
Rackley WAR Racing earned just one top 10 in their rookie season last year with Josh Berry. They’ve now snatched four in the first nine races of 2022 and are looking for more.
