The 2020 NASCAR Xfinity Series season didn’t start out on a high note for Jeremy Clements and his No. 51 Jeremy Clements Racing team but that all changed on Saturday afternoon.

After unfortunate results of 28th at Daytona and 31st at Las Vegas, Clements earned his first Top-10 finish of the season with a ninth place result in the Production Alliance Group 300.

His ninth-place finish at Fontana marks his best finish at the 2-mile track in 11 career starts. The day also started out with Clements recording his best-ever qualifying effort at Auto Club Speedway with an 11th place effort.

Clements No. 51 Chevrolet consistently ran inside the Top-15 running order as he rounded out Stages 1 and 2 both in the 13th position.

He was able to avoid any of the on the track mayhem as eight caution flags waved through out the afternoon, running as high as sixth on a couple of different occasions.

Clements stated to Kickin’ the Tires the team has to work on having better short run speed.

“We had a decent car and Panda [CC-Andrew Abbott] made it better and better. We got too loose at the end.”

“Didn’t have good short run speed at all but had a decent long run car,” said Clements. “We’ve got to work on having more short run speed, just getting out HP’ed [Horse Powered] really.”

The NASCAR Xfinity Series will close out the ‘West Coast Swing’ at Phoenix Raceway next weekend.

In 19 career starts at the 1-mile track, Clements has a best finish of 11th back in 2014. Overall, he has two top-15 and seven top-20 finishes at Phoenix.

Clements currently sits 24th in the Xfinity Series driver standings.

Love the team from Spartanburg! Great article! Love to see more on this team…… the series doesn’t show the recognition that they deserve…
