Kyle Busch Motorsports continues to give up-and-coming drivers opportunities with the addition of Chandler Smith for eight NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series races with sponsorship from JBL.

The 2020 NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series season will kickoff at Richmond Raceway for Smith. He then will race at Dover International Speedway. After turning 18-years-old, Smith will compete at Michigan International Speedway.

He will also run five of the seven NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series Playoff Races. Those include World Wide Technology Raceway at Gateway, Bristol Motor Speedway, Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Talladega Superspeedway, and Phoenix Raceway.

Chandler Smith drove in four NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series races for Kyle Busch Motorsports last year. The 17-year-old finished in the top-10 in all four races. With three of those races resulting in top-five finishes, Smith’s best finish was a runner-up at Bristol Motor Speedway.

“I learned a lot about racing in the NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series last season in my four races,” explained Smith. “I’m thankful to everyone at KBM, JBL, Toyota and TRD for the opportunity to have an expanded schedule this year. Danny Stockman (crew chief) and all the guys on the No. 51 team are already off to a great start getting a win with Kyle (Busch) at Las Vegas and having a strong run with Riley Herbst at Daytona.

“I know they are going to provide me with fast JBL Tundras every week. If I do my job and we execute as a team, I’m confident that we’ll be able to rack up a few wins and put ourselves in position to bring home another owner’s championship for KBM.”

In addition to his NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series starts, Smith has 20 career ARCA Menards Series starts. In those 20 starts with Venturini Motorsports, he has seven victories, 14 top-five, and 19 top-10 finishes. Smith has eight pole positions in ARCA competition.

The Talking Rock, GA native has seven Super Late Model starts in the Solid Rock Carriers CARS Tour. There he has six top-10 finishes including three runner-up finishes. Smith has shown speed across the map in Late Model competition. He finished runner-up in the 2018 Winchester 400 and 2019 All American 400.

“Chandler Smith is one of those young drivers that come along and are able to produce speed and run up front at every level as they progress up the ladder and it was no different for him last year in the Truck Series,” admitted team owner Kyle Busch.

“He was fastest in practice for his first truck race and went out and led a bunch of laps. Although he had just four races on his schedule, he was in the mix for the win a couple of times and we feel that his first of many wins at KBM is just around the corner.”

Smith’s rise is reminiscent to Erik Jones, Christopher Bell, and most recently Christian Eckes. All three drivers showed speed as they climbed up the NASCAR ladder.

Busch compared Smith to other talents that have moved up through Kyle Busch Motorsports in the past:

“Much like some of the younger guys before him, Erik Jones and most recently Christian Eckes, we feel that the schedule he is running for his second year in trucks is a mix of different types of tracks and with a good portion of his races coming during the playoffs it will help to prepare him for running for rookie of the year and competing for a championship next season.”
