BRISTOL, Tenn. — An emotional Ross Chastain climbed from his race car after finishing second for the fifth time in 2020. Through 26 races, Chastain has earned 23 top-10s and has finished inside the top-five 13 times.
“It’s tough,” Chastain told NBC Sports. “[I’m] fighting for everything. I want this so bad. I want to be in this sport and win races. I know its second, its great, I know I should be so happy, but man, it’s Bristol. There’s a lot of things I could have done different, and I just didn’t get it done.”
The driver of the No. 10 for Kaulig Racing says that the emotion fuels him to perform at a higher level, especially heading to Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where he scored his first Xfinity Series win in 2018.
“We’re all passionate, all these guys are race car drivers. We are hooked on this stuff and addicted to this sport, and we’ll do anything. I wouldn’t want to be anyone else.
“I don’t know if I want to be crying on TV by any means, but I can’t control it. It’s just what I feel, and we’ll move on. I wouldn’t trade who I am, I am who I am, and I’ve embraced it. A lot of people don’t like that, but it is what it is.”
The Alva, Florida native is looking forward to the week and preparing for the next event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, where the Playoffs kickoff for the Xfinity Series.
“I’m looking forward to enjoying this week. We thought we were going to make the Playoffs three months ago. [We’ll be] enjoying this week and preparing for Vegas is just rewarding for the year.”
