Long-time Performance Racing Network (PRN) race-day co-anchor Mark Garrow confirmed in September that 2025 would be his swan song in the booth, bringing down the curtain on more than 40 years of NASCAR Cup Series coverage at the conclusion of today’s South Point 400 at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

Over the decades, Garrow lent his voice and perspective to FOX, ESPN, TNN and TNT, collecting the National Motorsports Press Association (NMPA) Broadcaster of the Year honor six times.

Garrow’s love for racing was sparked early, attending events before he could even walk with his father waving the flags at their local short track and his mother keeping score.

He broke into the sport as public relations director at Dover Downs Speedway, later helping to build the team that captured the 1990 Xfinity Series championship with Chuck Bown. Additionally, he served as on-air talent and director of affiliates at the NASCAR-owned Motor Racing Network (MRN), while creating and growing the nationally syndicated “Winston Cup Today” through Capitol Sports Network.

Garrow eventually joined PRN, first working as a turn announcer and pit reporter before moving into the booth alongside Doug Rice. The duo played off each other’s commentary better than any other duo in the broadcast booth.

Over the past two years, the network has seen sweeping changes as Rice, PRN’s lead anchor and company leader, retired following the race at Bristol Motor Speedway in 2024. Later, it was announced that turn announcer Rob Albright was also stepping away.

In announcing his decision on Facebook, Garrow reflected, “To think I’ve been broadcasting Cup Series races for more than 40 years, that I was on the air when Richard Petty won his 200th race, that I have done close to 10,000 daily radio shows and that I have worked with so many great people along the way has been a great blessing.”

He remembered how Mike Joy and John McMullin opened the door for him at MRN and appreciated the Capitol Sports team for giving him the chance to build a radio network from scratch. He also took pride in working with Jay Adamcyzk to fuel the rapid growth of Jayski.com. Speaking on his decades at PRN, he said, “I consider it a privilege to have worked with PRN for more than 30 years, in the booth with Doug Rice, anchoring PRN’s Garage Pass and representing a great company – Speedway Motorsports.”

Along the path of his motorsports broadcasting journey, Garrow worked with several people who became more than just colleagues but also good friends, like Rice and the late Steve Richards, who was Garrow’s producer for over two decades before turning those duties over to Kickin’ the Tires editor, Jerry Jordan, for several years.

“I look back on my career starting out as a short-track promoter and all of the things that have happened in between, it’s been an amazing ride,” Garrow said.

Although he has not revealed his post-retirement plans, Garrow suggested that he will keep a few irons in the fire, ensuring he remains close to a sport that has shaped his life from the very beginning.
