SPEEDWAY, Ind. – Tyler Reddick earns his eighth career pole for the 30th anniversary of the iconic Brickyard 400 Presented by PPG.
“I have been excited to return and race on this oval, but I’ve been torn, naturally, because we’ve ran (strong on) the road course here,” Reddick shared during his qualifying press conference. “I got my second career win here, so I was a little conflicted, but certainly I could see it in my team and at the shop – a lot of individuals on the team that have ran the Brickyard for a lot of years – are really excited to return. You could see it in the fans, and in some ways, myself. It was a different feeling coming here and running the road course than it is when you run the oval, so I’m glad we are able to come back and give it another shot, especially on the 30th year of running here.
“There are a lot of huge moments that have happened here, so I’m glad to be back on the oval and excited for what the day may hold for us tomorrow.”
With a lap of 49.469 seconds at 181.932 mph, the No. 45 The Beast Unleashed Toyota Camry will lead the field to the green flag tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 p.m. ET on USA Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio Channel 90.
His latest NASCAR Cup Series pole ties him with Kyle Petty, Paul Goldsmith and Elliott Sadler.
Reddick’s second career pole was at Indianapolis Motor Speedway when the Cup Series competed on the Grand Prix road course. He went on to win that race, the only race he has won from the pole position in his fifth full-time season at stock car racing’s top level.
Alongside him will be team owner Denny Hamlin. His second-place effort keeps his top-10 starting percentage at half among his 16 oval Indianapolis starts.
Chase Elliott starts third for his fifth top-three starting position of 2024. Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.
Ty Gibbs was the last driver in the 49-second bracket with a 49.988 second time to qualify sixth. Ryan Blaney and Michael McDowell were the two lone Ford Performance drivers, starting seventh and eighth respectively. Ricky Stenhouse Jr. and John Hunter Nemechek completed the top-10 starting positions.
Zane Smith was the highest qualifying rookie in the 27th position. Seven-time Cup champion Jimmie Johnson will make his sixth start of 2024 from the 33rd position.
Austin Cindric and Corey LaJoie made contact with the outside wall. It is yet to be determined if they will need to make repairs or go to a backup car for Sunday’s crown jewel.
