GMS Racing signs Tyler Ankrum for 2020 NASCAR Truck season

GMS Racing announced on Thursday that the organization has signed Tyler Ankrum to join their 2020 NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series driver lineup.

Ankrum was the only rookie to make this year’s truck series playoffs with DGR-Crosley, in addition to clinching the 2019 Rookie of the Year title when the regular season concluded.

“I’m excited to move on to the next chapter in my racing career with GMS Racing and Chevrolet,” Ankrum said in a press release. “I’m pumped to work with my new teammates and hope I can bring something special to the team. I think we will win a lot of races and contend for the championship in 2020.”

The 18-year old will join what is already a stellar driver lineup for next season, joining 2018 Truck Series Champion, Brett Moffitt, 2019 K&N East Champion Sam Mayer and Sheldon Creed.

“Adding Tyler to our lineup is a great addition to our Truck Series program,” GMS Racing president Mike Beam said in a press release. “He is a talented young driver with a lot of potential and a great future ahead of him in NASCAR. I look forward to the success he will bring GMS in 2020.”

Ankrum who has spent the last two seasons with DGR-Crosley won the 2018 K&N East Championship in a season where he amassed four wins, nine top-five and 12 top-ten finishes.

In 2019 heading into the season-finale at Homestead-Miami Speedway, Ankrum has earned one coming at Kentucky in July with what win being his first in the Truck Series, thee top-five and eight top-10 finishes.
