After a hard crash after the sand pit turn in the 450SX Monster Energy AMA Supercross Main Event at Houston 2, Chase Sexton has elected to miss the third round in NRG Stadium.
“It kills me to say I won’t be lining up Saturday for the 3rd round of Supercross due to my crash Tuesday night,” Sexton shared on social media for his announcement.
Sexton put on an unbelievable performance in Houston 2. The rookie grabbed the holeshot early and led the opening six laps. When racing through the sand pit for the seventh time, the front tire started sliding out. When the front tire regained grip on the first jump, it sent Sexton over the handlebars, landing on his right shoulder.
The Team Honda HRC rider announced he would fly home to Florida for an MRI in hopes to compete again in Indianapolis.
“I’ve been having problems with my right shoulder being weak,” he continued, “and limited range of motion. Getting (an) MRI done tomorrow back in Florida to see if there is any damage done internally. Hoping to be back next weekend at 100% for Indianapolis. Thank you for the support.”
Currently, Sexton is battling Monster Energy / Star Racing / Yamaha rider Dylan Ferrandis for the 2021 AMA Supercross Rookie of the Year honors. While it is early in the season, Ferrandis’ runner-up finish Tuesday night gives him a strong early edge to the start of the year.
