On the day following each regular season points race, Kickin’ the Tires takes a deep look at the current playoff grids for both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series, evaluating the postseason picture for NASCAR’s second and third tours.
Camping World Truck Series
Track: Kansas Speedway
Event: 37 Kind Days 250
Race Winner: Noah Gragson
Stage Winner(s): Noah Gragson (Won Both Stages)
Who Won Big
Noah Gragson: If the opening five races of the 2018 season showed glimpses of Gragson’s potential, then the sixth race at Kansas was the sophomore’s breakout performance. The Nevadan dominated early and often, leading 128 laps, sweeping both stages and beating boss Kyle Busch outright.
Stewart Friesen: He wasn’t able to hold the lead after taking the top spot lat eon pit strategy, but Friesen still tallied a third-place finish at Kansas – his career best result on a paved track. The result elevated Friesen to seventh in the standings, back on the right side of the playoff bubble.
Cody Coughlin: The 2018 season started off on a sour note for Coughlin, with finishes of 17th and 20th in the opening two events. But in the four races since Coughlin has tallied three top 10s, keeping him within 24 points of the current playoff bubble.
Who Hurt Their Odds:
Ben Rhodes: Kansas hasn’t been kind to Rhodes in the past two seasons. The Kentuckian was challenging for the lead on Saturday when his No. 41 Ford began to cut out, forcing Rhodes to pit road and relegating him to an 18th-place result. Rhodes is still well inside the current playoff grid, but he’s used up one of his mulligans for the remainder of the regular season.
Myatt Snider: A challenging evening for Snider ended in a 15th-place result in Kansas, dropping the 23-year-old to 10th with a six-point deficit on the current playoff grid.
