By Christian Koelle, Staff Writer

LINCOLN, Ala. – ARCA Menards Series driver Scott Melton has been transported to a local hospital for further evaluation. Melton was involved in an accident during Saturday’s General Tire 200 at Talladega Superspeedway.

Following the accident, Melton was extracted from his No. 69 Ford Fusion after the roof of the car was removed.

Scott Melton has updated his condition via a Facebook post. He has a compound fracture on his lower left leg.

“Today didn’t go as planned,” said Melton. “Currently I’m in the hospital, after some nice gentleman offered me a helicopter ride, in Birmingham, Alabama. I will have surgery first thing in the morning to repair a compound fracture on my lower left leg. Sounds like a fairly simple procedure. Hoping to fly home tomorrow. Apparently, we won’t be in the late model at Salem tomorrow. Thanks for all your thoughts and prayers. We live to fight another day. Really appreciate everyone at Kimmel racing. They delivered another great car.”
