Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series driver Brad Keselowski has 30 wins at NASCAR’s premiere level heading into Sunday’s Consumers Energy 400 but none of those wins have come at his home track of Michigan International Speedway.
However, that could all change come Sunday afternoon if driver Brad Keselowski continues to have as strong of a weekend as he’s currently having in his No. 2 Discount Tire Ford Mustang for Team Penske.
“It would certainly be one of the biggest wins of my career. I try not to think too much about it because you just get some bad vibes going if you don’t just do your thing, but it’s always on my mind”, said Keselowski.
The Rochester Hills, Michigan native has been strong since the MENCS took to the Brooklyn, Michigan track for first practice on Friday afternoon.
Keselowski ran eight laps in his No. 2 Discount Tire Ford during first practice, finishing second behind Austin Dillon’s No. 3 Chevrolet with a speed of 189.929 mph.
“It looks like we are off to a good start this weekend. We have really good speed. We are one day into a three-day weekend so it is a bit early and a presumption to say anything beyond that, but it is a good start, nonetheless.”
When the Cup Series qualified earlier this evening, Keselowski was the final driver to go out and make a lap which proved to be no issue for the veteran driver.
Keselowski’s lap speed of 190. 471 mph put his No. 2 Ford at the top of the leader board ahead of Kevin Harvick’s No. 4 Ford.

That fast lap earned Keselowski his 16th MENCS pole of his career, second of the season and his second at Michigan.
“The Discount Tire Ford Mustang has been incredible since we unloaded, and you know we were really fast in practice and then everyone really started picking up towards the end of qualifying and got a little nervous”, said Keselowski.
“Paul Wolfe and the team did a great job, and we picked up just enough to get our second pole here. Hopefully we can convert it into a win.”
