With only three regular-season races remaining before the Chase, the Iowa Speedway race completely changed the outlook of the championship shot, particularly near the top of the NASCAR Cup standings and around the playoff cutoff.
Ty Gibbs’ Iowa win alters the championship battle at the top of the NASCAR Cup standings table
Ty Gibbs came out of Iowa with 69 points after leading the final 20 laps, turning his P6-place starting position into his second Cup win of the season.
Christopher Bell followed in P2 after leading 108 laps to earn 50 points, while Ryan Blaney completed the podium after starting from the pole and pacing the field for a race-high 129 laps. Josh Berry and Denny Hamlin rounded out the top five.
That result led to a big shift among the championship contenders. Gibbs climbed two spots from P4 to P2, reaching 820 points and moving within 103 points of Hamlin, who remains atop the standings with 923.
Blaney stayed third at 813, while Tyler Reddick slipped two positions down to P4 with 803 after his Iowa race ended almost immediately.
Reddick’s early exit was particularly costly because he had entered Iowa as one of the strongest drivers in the championship battle. A crash on Lap 4 ended his race after only three completed laps, leaving him with a 36th-place finish and one point, allowing Gibbs to leapfrog him in the standings.
Bell, meanwhile, made the biggest upward move among the drivers near the front. His runner-up result vaulted him four positions in the driver standings table from 10th to P6, giving him 659 points and putting him directly behind Chase Briscoe, who also gained ground by moving from P7 to P5 with 663 points.
The result leaves Bell only four points behind Briscoe, hanging the battle for P5 into another one to watch as the regular season approaches its conclusion.
Further down the championship order, Carson Hocevar endured one of the biggest setbacks of the weekend.
His 31st-place finish dropped him three spots down from P5 to P8, while Chris Buescher moved into P9 with 637 points and Kyle Larson sits 10th on 629. Meanwhile, William Byron occupies 11th with 600 points, followed by Daniel Suárez in 12th with 597 points and Joey Logano at 13th with 586 points.
The playoff picture is even more interesting near the cutoff line. Bubba Wallace holds 14th with 565 points, while Shane van Gisbergen is 15th with 544. Austin Cindric currently occupies the final Chase position in 16th with 526 points, creating a 29-point cushion over Ryan Preece in 17th.
However, that gap is hardly comfortable with three races remaining. Preece has 497 points, while Ross Chastain sits 18th at 479, after gaining three spots following his P7 finish at Iowa, and Brad Keselowski follows in 19th with 478.
Erik Jones dropped by two spots following his P35 finish at Iowa, and now stands in 20th with 476 points. That means the fight for the final postseason positions remains very much alive.
The Iowa result also carried consequences for several drivers outside the immediate playoff battle.
Michael McDowell sits in 21st with 454 points after dropping one position; AJ Allmendinger is 22nd with 438, and Todd Gilliland holds 23rd with 421. Zane Smith follows in 24th with 417, while Riley Herbst is 25th on 386.
At the bottom of the standings, Ricky Stenhouse Jr. sits 26th with 383 points, followed by Austin Dillon at 382 (who gained one spot following his top 10 finish at Iowa), and John Hunter Nemechek at 28th with 373 points after he slipped one spot down after his P19 finish on Sunday.
Alex Bowman is 29th with 313; Josh Berry’s strong Iowa finish – P4 with 33 points, leaves him 30th on 297; and Noah Gragson is 31st with 288.
The remaining positions belong to Ty Dillon in 32nd with 279, Cole Custer in 33rd with 279, Connor Zilisch in 34th with 245 and Cody Ware in 35th with 188. Casey Mears, Kevin McManus, Jimmie Johnson, Katherine Legge and BJ McLeod occupy the final five positions.

Biggest stories to look forward to
With Hamlin still holding the points lead, Gibbs now becomes his closest challenger, while Blaney remains within striking distance. Behind them, Reddick has work to do after losing ground, and Bell’s surge has suddenly put him much closer to the championship conversation.
But the most volatile battle may be behind that group. Only 29 points separate the final playoff spot from the first driver outside it, leaving Preece, Chastain, Keselowski and Jones with very little room for another bad weekend.
Gibbs is now chasing Hamlin for the top seed, while a cluster of drivers is fighting simply to remain inside the 16-driver Chase field.
