By Vincent Deforge, Staff Writer

In 2024, the race had been dominated by Trevor Huddleston. He had done the pole and led all the laps of the race. This year, the scenario was the same. But the main actor was this time Robbie Kennealy.

Indeed, The Ninth Race of the 2025 Arca Menards West Series Season, the Napa Auto Parts 150 Presented by West Coast Stock Car Motorsports Hall of Fame, Held on September 13 at the All American Speedway in Roseville, CA, Was Won by Jan’s Racing Team Driver Robbie Kennealy. It was an emotional victory, coming almost a year after the passing of his father, Gary (September 30, 2024). This Saturday will remain for Robbie the day he obtained his first pole and his first career victory. Thanks to this victory, he secured a position in the championship, where he now stands in fourth place.

Jan’s Racing, Jan Qualkenbush’s team, went from the role of beginner in 2023 to Outsider in 2024 and now it is clearly one of the favorites. Two victories and two poles were obtained by his two full-time drivers in the championship, Kyle Keller and Robbie Kennealy.

The Drivers

No. 05 David Smith (Shockwave Racing) Start: 13th – Fin: 12th

Anonymous race for the Canadian veteran who suffers from the long first run under the green flag by losing many laps to the leaders. Then he stays at the top 10 door until the end of the race but without being able to integrate it.

“Very snugg so I wasn’t going anywhere. Clean car and on to Madera!” Smith said.

No. 1 Robbie Kennealy (Jan’s Racing Team) Start: 1st – fin: 1st

Everything has been said in the race review article. Kennealy delivered a masterpiece to the spectators. Pole, all the laps led and victory. A first in career in all areas. A first pole, the first time he led laps and his first victory. He dedicated his victory to his late father, who died on September 30, 2024, a few days before the race last year, even in Roseville.

“One year ago, this exact race was when my dad suddenly passed away. One year later, we win one of the biggest races…that’s for you, dad! It’s all thanks to my Jan’s Racing crew. Without Jan giving me and Kyle Keller this opportunity, we wouldn’t be standing here. I drove all 150 laps the hardest I have ever in my life.” Kennealy said.

Dream. Come. True. That’s for you Dad. Don’t even know where to start. Couldn’t sleep much at all last night, thinking about the day we had. Even writing this post makes me a bit emotional. So many different people in my career who have helped me that I’m so thankful for. Most importantly Jan Qualkenbush and Susan for believing in me and giving me this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to drive some bad fast racecars. Brian Kizer and Chris Greaney deserve a lot for making these cars fast all year long. Most importantly my own family and the entire Jan’s Racing Team and Jan’s Towing, Inc. team. This is something I’ve dreamed about doing as a little five-year-old kid at the quarter midget track. And the icing on the cake is to do it the same race one year after my dad passing. This year has definitely not been easy without you but I know you were riding with me all 150 laps last night. Dad we got the pole and lead every single lap, we did it. Crazy to say we are NASCAR ARCA West series winners,» Kennealy said the day after.

No. 3 Todd Souza (Central Coast Racing) Stat: 7th – Fin: 11th

Frustrating race for Souza, who has experienced various mechanical and handling problems during the vast majority of the race. Qualified seventh, he gradually slipped into the ranking during the first part of the race and found himself in 12th position at three laps from the leader. Finally, he won a position following the abandonment of Smotherman.

No. 4 Eric Nascimento, Jr.  (Nascimento-Joiner Motorsports) Start: 3rd – Fin: 9th

It all started well with a good third position during the Qualifying Session. But Bubba will experience problems with the brakes overheating during the first long green flag run of 95 laps. He slips inexorably into the ranking to the ninth position, a lap behind the leader when the first yellow flag is brandished. He obtains the Free Pass. But can’t really take advantage of it. His car is difficult to run when turning. He will even go on a spin in the 118th lap in turn 2 and cause the third caution. It was a disappointing ninth position that he finished in the race. He who had passed so close to victory last year.

No. 5 Eric Johnson, Jr. (Jerry Pitts Racing) Start: 9th – fin: 5th

Johnson, Jr. had a great race, with an excellent car for long runs. He moved into the top five in less than 20 laps and fought a superb battle with Chapman and Bollman for third place. He held this position until the third yellow flag of the race, despite a damaged car on the right front. But the final restart was wild, and he was passed by Iest and Chapman. He finally finished fifth under the checkered flag.

“Brought home another Top-5 after a wild night in Roseville! Used the top groove to drive from 9th into the top 3 by the halfway mark, despite heavy nose damage from the lap-one stack-up. Thought we might’ve had a shot at the lead if it had stayed green, but some late-race restarts cost us a couple spots as I struggled to make speed on the bottom with the RF damage. Gonna be thinking about those positions for a while, no doubt. Beyond proud of this team and the speed we showed, even if the results didn’t fully reflect it. Truthfully, I won’t be satisfied until I can get them the win they deserve. Still, a great weekend overall with plenty of notes for the next one. Gonna keep working on my qualifying efforts so we’re not digging out of a hole from the start. Something tells me it’s gonna be a long two weeks waiting for the next one. Big thank you to all our proud partners as always! Onto Madera! Definitely kicking myself after qualifying. Just got too impatient on the throttle off of turn two and hurt us just enough on our money lap. Cars got tons of speed but with how tight the field is, we’ll roll off 9th for the race.  Gonna do all I can to make up for it in the race for this No.5 Jerry Pitts Racing crew. 150 laps to get it done.» Johnson, Jr. said.

No. 9 RJ Smotherman (Jan’s Racing Team) Start: 6th – Fin: 13th Brakes

Last-minute change with Smotherman, who makes a deal with Jan’s Racing to drive the No. 9 instead of Joey Kennealy. RJ’s first West Series race since Las Vegas in 2023. He has a good qualifying session, finishing sixth. In the race, he maintains this position and is even up to fifth around lap 10. But the long run under the green flag will cause his brakes to overheat, which will cause his right front tire to burst, propelling him into the wall at turn 4 on lap 95. The contact is violent and will force Smotherman to retire.

“Car was really stout all weekend was conserving during the race when we unfortunately blew a right front tire ending our night. So thankful for Jan, Jan’s towing and Jan’s racing for the amazing opportunity to come back into arca and have fun.” Smotherman said.

No. 13 Tanner Reif (Central Coast Racing) Start: 2nd – Fin: 8th

Tanner was the fastest in action at the drop of the green flag and took first place by the outside line in the first two turns. Unfortunately, the officials deemed that he had jumped the start and he was black-flagged. He made his stop & go on lap eight by stopping briefly along the infield of the backstretch. Then his car became difficult to turn in the corners and he lost a lap to the leaders. He was given a free pass at the second yellow flag. But with a struggling car, he could do no better than eighth place at the checkered flag. He lost six more points to Huddleston and is now trailing by 26 points with three races remaining in the season.

No. 19 Jake Bollman (Bill McAnally Racing) Start: 8th – Fin: 7th

Bollman yo-yoed throughout the race. Fast during practice, he missed his qualifying session, finishing only eighth. He climbed up to fourth place in less than 10 laps after the start of the race. He then dropped back to his initial starting position around lap 50. He climbed back up once again to fourth place on the second restart but was pushed into a spin in turn 1 on lap 107 by Chapman. He once again dropped out of the top five to seventh. He managed to temporarily take sixth place from Keller on the final restart on lap 125, but was unable to hold it until the finish.

“We had some good pace at times tonight but ultimately got put behind the eight ball when we got spun. Luckily, we didn’t tear anything up and could get back going. Wish we had a little more for them but appreciate everyone at BMR and the effort they put in on our NAPA 100th anniversary Chevy. It was cool to race in front of so many NAPA customers and supporters tonight. We’ll go back and get prepared for Madera in a couple of weeks.” Bollman said.

No. 50 Trevor Huddleston (High Point Racing)  Start: 4th – Fin: 2nd

Always a strong performer at Roseville, Huddleston earned his fifth top-five finish, making him the driver with the most top5s finishes in history on this short track. Last year, he dominated the race. This time, he found a stronger competitor in Kennealy. Yet Trevor did everything he could, including an excellent start that propelled him directly from fourth to second position. He showed his fair play by fighting hard but cleanly with the leader. Kennealy was not a direct threat to the championship, and Chapman finished third. The result of the championship leader’s race is a good move in the quest for the 2025 crown.  “We gained a couple points. Congrats to Robbie. I gave it all I had and he was the dominant car. The only way I was going to get by him is if I completely dumped him. I know he wouldn’t race me like that, so I’ll take the wins when I can.” Huddleston said.

No. 51 Blake Lothian (Strike Mamba Racing) Start: 12th – Fin: 10th

Lothian raced quietly, just outside the top 10 for the first 95 laps. But this long run under green caused him to lose a lap to the leaders. He moved into the top 10 after Smotherman’s accident and, despite a solo spun on lap 107 in turn 4, he held onto his 10th position. At the very end of the race, he suffered a slow puncture on his left front tire but still finished 10th, earning his fifth top 10 of the season.

“Top 10! So proud of the team, we had really good speed throughout the night but got spun midway and lost a left front tire in the closing laps. But an extremely strong night!! Up next, New Hampshire Motor Speedway this weekend in the truck!” Lothian said.

No. 55 Andrew Chapman (High Point Racing) Start: 10th – Fin: 3rd

Mission accomplished for Chapman, who earned valuable points by finishing ahead of his teammate Huddleston’s rivals. However, he had some work to do to achieve this result. He had only finished 10th during the qualifying session. During the first long run under the green flag, he methodically climbed his way up and made it into the top five in less than 50 laps. He was fourth when the first yellow flag was waved on lap 96. He passed Johnson, Jr. for third place on lap 118 and held this position until the end, protecting his teammate Huddleston from an attack by one of his rivals. However, there were two “hot” moments during the race for the rookie. First, when he clashed with Bollman in the front stretch on lap 107, and then when he locked his front wheels to avoid contact with Huddleston on lap 126 in turn 3.

No. 71 Kyle Keller (Jan’s Racing Team) Start: 5th – Fin: 6th

It wasn’t the easiest race for Keller, who fought for the top five throughout the race but slipped to seventh place at the final restart. He eventually managed to regain a position and finished sixth. He limited the damage by losing only four points to Huddleston.

“P.6 at All American. We fought a tight car all weekend and just missed it. We are still in the hunt for the championship, only sitting 12 points out but going to some tracks I know a lot! Thank you to Jan Qualkenbush for the opportunity! Thank you to the Jan’s Racing Team for their hard work this weekend! We will rebound! Congrats, Robbie, on your win! Thank you to Jan’s Towing, Inc. for making this possible! » Keller said.

No. 72 Jonathan Reaume (Strike Mamba Racing) Start: 14th – Fin: 14th Suspension

Reaume did the minimum. He retired after nine laps due to a suspension problem. But in reality, it was a start and park. By participating in the race, the team earned valuable points for the owner’s standings.

No. 88 Joey Iest (Naake Motorsports) Start: 11th – Fin: 4th

With Joey Iest behind the wheel of your car, you’re guaranteed a big result every time. That’s what Joey gave Mike Naake with a great fourth place. However, he had missed his qualifying session, only getting 11th. It must be said that he hadn’t done this exercise in the West Series for almost two years (Phoenix in November 2023). During the long run under the green flag at the start of the race, he patiently climbed back to sixth position. Then, he joined the top five on the 100th lap and fought until the finish with Chapman, Johnson, Jr. and Bollman for third position. “Great night with Naake Motorsports! Started 11th and worked my way up to 4th in the ARCA race at All American Speedway.” Iest said.
