NASCAR driver Spencer Boyd announced on Wednesday morning that he’ll make his Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series debut this weekend at Michigan International Speedway. The 24-year old Boyd will drive the No. 53 Mustang for Rick Ware Racing in Sunday’s Consumers Energy 400.

“I’ve known Rick (Ware) for a long time. He’s opened a lot of doors for me and this is a really big door for which I am truly grateful”, said Boyd.

Boyd made his NASCAR Xfinity Series debut for Rick Ware Racing at Iowa Speedway in 2016 and went on to run some truck races for the team in 2017 as well.

Boyd is no stranger to NASCAR; he currently drives the No. 20 Chevrolet Silverado for Young’s Motorsports in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series.

The Missouri native’s best finish of 2019 thus far is a fourth-place result in the season-opener NextEra Energy 250 from Daytona International Speedway in February.

Previously, Boyd competed in the NASCAR Xfinity Series over a three-year period from 2016-2018, competing full-time in 2018 with a best finish of 17th coming in the Coca-Cola Firecracker 250 in July of that same year.

“The past few weeks have been a roller coaster ride for me. A dear friend once told me that life is just one big adjustment and it has never been more true than what I’ve experienced lately”, said Boyd.

“Honestly, the injury has provided me with a different perspective on my life and career, so with limited opportunities to make a debut I knew I had to take this chance. I love racing on Fridays, but I’m not going to lie, racing this Sunday will be pretty cool too.”

NASCAR driver Spencer Boyd will have Chelle Corporation on board the No. 53 as a primary sponsor this weekend along with familiar partners such as 1A Auto, Wilkerson Automation, Record Rack, Kickass Beef Jerky, Console Vault and MGP Caliper Covers will all ride on the No. 53 for Boyd’s debut as well.

“Spencer is a smart young driver with a great deal of potential. I respect him for what he’s been able to do in our sport and I’m happy to be in a position to provide him this opportunity”, said Rick Ware.
