TBT: Bubba Wallace dominates Eldora for victory By Sarah Handy, Staff Writer
In this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday, Kickin’ The Tires relives when Darrell “Bubba” Wallace found victory lane at the dirt track of Eldora Speedway in the NASCAR Truck Series on July 23, 2014.
The Truck Series has been racing at Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, OH each season since 2013 and each year since then it’s had a different winner.
The 2014 1-800-CarCash Mudsummer Classic was a race that Darrell “Bubba” Wallace Jr completely dominated.
After starting sixth on the grid, Wallace and his No. 54 ToyotaCare Toyota for Kyle Busch Motorsports would completely school the field that evening.
Wallace led an astounding 97 of 150 laps and was able to hold off a hard-charging Kyle Larson who was clearly on the move.
Larson and Wallace battled heavily for a number of laps.
However, when Larson’s truck bounced off the wall, Wallace was able to retake the lead with 19 laps remaining.
Unfortunately for Larson, he would be left with a disappointing 26th place result.
That result due to one final lick with the wall that did him in as his truck slowed and began smoking down the backstretch of the popular dirt track.
Wallace was able to hold off Ron Hornaday who was running second to claim the victory.
The win was his second of the season and third of his career at that time.
Career Update:
In 2014 Wallace would go on to win a total of four times.
In addition to Eldora, he won at Gateway, Martinsville and Homestead that year.
As a result, he finished the season with three pole awards, four wins, nine Top-5s, 14 Top-10 finishes and led for 623 laps.
At this time, Wallace currently pilots the No. 43 Camaro ZL1 for Richard Petty Motorsports in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series.
