In this week’s edition of Throwback Thursday, Kickin’ The Tires relives when NASCAR driver Greg Biffle won the 2007 Lifelock 400 for Roush Fenway Racing at Kansas Speedway on September 30, 2007.

In a bizarre race that took over six hours to complete, Greg Biffle driving the No. 16 Aflac Ford for Jack Roush took the victory at Kansas Speedway, his first of the season at the time under the NASCAR Nextel Cup banner.

Biffle ran out of fuel on the final lap of the race, but NASCAR ruled he was the winner. Unfortunately, with no fuel in the tank of his Ford the veteran driver was unable to do a victory burnout and had to be pushed all the way to victory lane.

The final laps of the event didn’t provide much entertainment for the fans in the stands. Biffle started to lose ground to fellow competitor Clint Bowyer.

However, when Juan Pablo Montoya blew a right front tire with four laps to go, the excitement was no more as the final three laps finished under the caution flag.

Not only did the final three laps finish with no battle for the lead, but the race was shortened due to the sun setting and possible visibility issues. Originally the race was scheduled to go 267 laps but was shortened to 225 and then ultimately 210 laps.

Biffle admitted he struggled to get the car to the finish.

“The car was running. I coasted it rolling it. We crossed the start-finish line and I drove it down in the grass and probably got it stuck in the grass”, said Biffle.

“It really doesn’t matter, the field is frozen, we maintain our speed to the line. I couldn’t go faster. I really don’t think it makes a difference.”

Career Update:

In 2007, Greg Biffle earned one victory (Kansas), five Top-5s and 11 Top-10 finishes with 78 laps led that season.

Biffle’s last race in Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series competition came in the 2016 season finale Ford EcoBoost 400 from Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Currently, Biffle races Stadium Super Trucks (SST) but returned to NASCAR competition in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series in 2019 for Kyle Busch Motorsports.

Biffle piloted the No. 51 truck in the SpeedyCash.com 400 from Texas Motor Speedway and won in his return to the series, leading 18 laps and holding off Matt Crafton for the victory, his first in the series since the 2001 season.
