In his 10th Gander Outdoors Truck Series start Friday at Texas Motor Speedway, Tyler Dippel scored his first-career top-10 finish.

The rookie wheeled his No. 02 Young’s Motorsports Chevrolet to eighth place following a night of attrition and aggressive driving from start to end.

After starting 24th, the 18-year-old was thrilled to have made the forward progress past competitive equipment.

“It’s a step in the right direction,” Dippel said. “I think everyone is working together. We got what we wanted on the chassis side, we just have to go to work on our body department. I was just getting killed on the straightaway.”

With a previous best result of 11th coming earlier this year at Atlanta, Dippel was geled well with tough track conditions in the early weeks of 2019. Texas was no easy feat, as the outside lane was a scary place despite the layer of VHT.

“It was pretty sketchy on the top of [Turn] 2,” he said. “Everywhere else wasn’t bad but that was pretty trechourous.”

Dippel now heads next to Dover, where he’ll make his first Truck start on the concrete monster.

“We’re going to start really working well together,” he said of the team. “We got the trucks where I really want them chassis-wise. We just have to go to work on our bodies now.”
