After receiving two speeding penalties during the STP 500, Clint Bowyer was able to rebound to finish seventh at Martinsville Speedway.
Because of the amount of room in Martinsville, the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series holds their garage on the pit lane. During the two Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series practice sessions, the No. 14 team attempted to practice the 35-mph pit road speed.
Bowyer was busted for speeding at the entrance of pit road on Laps 314 and 374.
“Yeah, I guess we need to get our stuff together and being on the same page with pit road speed,” Bowyer said. “It’s such a big part in this style of racing where track position is everything. We push it to the limit.”
“It’s hard to practice pit road speed. You have trucks on pit road when we are trying to practice that. I am not making excuses, but when you are trying to pinch hit every little thing out of it. It was hard this week to practice it because of all the stuff on pit road.”
Bowyer sits 13th in the points going into Texas Motor Speedway.
