It was the race that got away from Ross Chastain, driver of the No. 42 for Chip Ganassi Racing, on Lap 112.

Coming off of Turn 2, Chastain was on the high side of Harvick with a lapped car on his outside. Once they cleared the lapped car, Chastain was rubbing fenders on the side of Harvick’s Ford. Harvick became loose on the inside of Chastain. Chastain pounded the wall and became out of control. Because of being out of control, Chastain went down and tapped the left-rear quarter panel and sent Harvick into the wall.

After the incident, Harvick parked in the No. 42 pit stall and expressed his displeasure with Chastain.

“I tried to stay as low as I could and he just rode on my door.  That’s just a really inexperienced racer and a really bad move there and got the air and got on beside me and just kept going up the race track.  I couldn’t do anything with the wheel,” Harvick stated.

“So, you’ve got a really inexperienced guy in a really fast car and made a really bad move, and then wrecked me down the back straightaway and hooked me to the right.  That’s probably the reason that he’ll never get to drive many of them again.”

Chastain offered his point of view about the situation.

“Man, I am trying to race. I will have to see the film. If I made a mistake, it is on me. I am just trying to race. We were giving each other room all day. It’s unfortunate because I wanted to make DC Solar proud. Everyone at CGR gave me this opportunity, I am really thankful for that,” Chastain said post-race.

Harvick was scored in the 29th position, while Chastain finished 25th.
