In his best finish since Bristol, Jimmie Johnson was able to have a decent day at Charlotte Motor Speedway in the Coca-Cola 600.

Early on in the second stage, Johnson went for a spin in Turn 4, but was able to recover after receiving no damage to the No. 48 Chevrolet Camaro.

Although he was able to able to recover from the spin to finish in the fifth position, the veteran driver is ready to score a victory.

“It feels good, but damn I want to win.  I’m tired of running fifth, I’m tired of running whatever it is,” Johnson said.

Throughout the race, Johnson and his pit crew were off on some of the adjustments they made. With those adjustments made, the No. 48 team realized how sensitive the car was after losing half a second. With some tough love, they went back to the original adjustments.

“We got off on some adjustments today and it was amazing how sensitive the car was with some minor adjustments the car just lost half a second.  We had a hard time trying to grasp it and understand it and communicate about it.  We put it back to the way it was and it took off and I drove right back up into the top three,” Johnson said.

With the new Camaro ZL1, the sweet spot on the cars is very small. Johnson is glad that he was able to finish in that sweet spot.

“Just a very small sweet spot with the car.  Luckily, we finished in that sweet spot and got a good finish out of it, including a spin and we had a jack break on a stop,” Johnson said.

With everything the team encountered, Johnson was proud of the effort his guys put in.
