If not for two attempts of NASCAR overtime at Las Vegas Motor Speedway in the World of Westgate 200, Brett Moffitt would have found himself with his fifth win of 2018 and a lock into the next round of the NASCAR Playoffs.

However, Moffitt found himself in a precarious situation of running out of fuel in the closing stages of the race.

Moffitt survived the first attempt at a green-white-checkered restart. On the second attempt, Moffitt found himself a couple hundred yards away from the start-finish line and taking the white flag, before a nine-truck pileup occurred coming off of Turn Four brought out the caution.

In what turned out to be the final attempt at a green-white-checkered attempt, Moffitt started on the outside and was able to lead the field to the green flag before the fuel ran out shortly after crossing the line.

After dropping back, Moffitt was able to find enough fuel to finish the race in 11th.

The Toyota driver thought that he would have been able to make it to the end on fuel, but those calculations proved to be false.

“No. We were supposed to be a few laps to the good. It shouldn’t have been an issue. It’s a bummer when I’m 100 yards from the start-finish line and I see them somewhat throw the white and they throw the caution. Then we have that happen to us. It is what it is,” a disappointed Moffitt said post-race.

While the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series has a month off before Talladega Superspeedway, Moffitt finds himself 18 points above the cutoff line in the playoffs.
