Texas Motor Speedway will host graduation ceremonies for 23 area high schools after the Coronavirus has caused many school systems to scramble to find alternative ways to conduct graduation ceremonies.

“A high school graduation ceremony is such an important achievement and lifelong memory for students as well as their families,” said Eddie Gossage, President and General Manager of Texas Motor Speedway. “We are honored by the opportunity to support each and every Denton County high school graduate as best we can in these difficult times.”

Graduates will be spaced on pit road to accommodate social distancing requirements set by the Denton County Health Services. Graduating seniors will then proceed to Victory Lane to receive their diploma.

Friends and families attending the ceremony will be able to watch the ceremony on “Big Hoss”, the world’s largest HDTV screen, from their vehicle parked in the Texas Motor Speedway infield.

“Efforts to make this happen for our graduates have been extraordinary – from Texas Motor Speedway, Judge Andy Eads, Jostens and our area superintendents – all stand committed to creating an amazing experience for students who have earned this honor,” said Dr. Jamie Wilson, superintendent of schools.

In addition to spacing graduates out on pit road, graduates will be wearing custom masks that match the gown to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Graduates will also receive their diploma in a “hands free” manner to respect social distancing guidelines.
