It didn’t take long for the inaugural All-Star Night at Bristol Motor Speedway to get wild. In fact, it occurred the main event itself.
Early in the All-Star Open (the qualifying race to set the final three positions for the All-Star Race), Darrell Wallace Jr. was spun into the Turn 3 wall by Michael McDowell. Hooking Wallace’s No. 43 in the right rear corner panel, a hard hit was followed by a spin by McDowell.
Wallace, who gave McDowell a bump-and-run the corner prior, was furious with the No. 34 driver.
“It’s just disrespect to get hooked into the wall,” Wallace said. “To get hooked right-rear into the wall, I don’t even need to see a replay.
“Wow…. People say [he’s] one of the nicest guys in the garage. What a joke he is.”

McDowell recovered to finish seventh in the Open while Wallace finished 21st. Both drivers did not advance to the All-Star Race.
