Chase Briscoe was expected to have a top-10 in the Rinnai 250 at Atlanta Motor Speedway despite starting toward the rear of the field; however, a top-10 run became spoiled in the final 10 laps of the race when he cut a tire and tagged the Turn 4 wall.
Due to a persistent mist during the morning hours, NASCAR Xfinity Series qualifying was postponed putting Briscoe in the 28th position.
By the end of stage one, Briscoe was able to get to the top-10 and stay there until he cut a tire.
“It was a frustrating day,” he said. “I definitely felt like a top-five car all day long. Had to start in the back and gained track position and finally had it there at the end. I felt like the race was coming to us with that long run and then we blew the right front tire. I don’t know what caused it.”
While pitting to change tires and fix the damage, Briscoe was busted on pit road for driving through more than three pit boxes under green flag conditions.
“It doesn’t help when you come down pit road and give yourself a penalty either. I hate it. We should have had a top-five,” he said.
Although the finish is not what he wanted, Briscoe is looking forward to next weekend at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
