HAMPTON, Ga. – It will be two weeks before NASCAR can hear the appeal from ThorSport Racing on the No. 41 truck of Ben Rhodes, which failed post-race height requirements at Daytona International Speedway, but the team feels it has a good shot at a successful argument and plans to present their truck to the appeals panel in hopes it sways their decision.
With the series heading out to the West Coast, it isn’t possible to get an appeals panel together before March 6 or 7, according to David Pepper, ThorSport’s general manager. He said that is fine because the height failure was caused from contact during the race.
“Yes, we have appeal the penalty and asked that it be deferred until it can be hear,” Pepper told Kickin’ the Tires. “In talking with them (they) indicated it would be the week of March 6 or 7 and that is fine with us. We are available for that.”
Pepper said the team is heading straight to Las Vegas after this weekend at Atlanta Motor Speedway.
“We contend that there was contact and it shouldn’t have gone through inspection,” Pepper said. “The impact bent the frame, so we saved the truck and will bring it to the appeal. If people see it, I think people will be like, ‘yeah, we understand.’”
