DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – After two years with Joe Gibbs Racing, where he tried to win a second NASCAR Championship in 2019 and narrowly missed advancing to the Championship Four in 2020, Martin Truex Jr. and the team have renewed their relationship beyond 2021.

“Extending Martin’s agreement has been a big priority for us this offseason,” said Joe Gibbs, owner of Joe Gibbs Racing. “Martin brings so much to our organization. Obviously, he’s talented and shown he can win at any racetrack but his insights also help to make all our teams better.”

Truex narrowly missed a shot to compete for the NASCAR Cup Series title in 2020 when a loose wheel in the final stage sent him to the pits. To that point, he had led 129 laps of the 500-lap event at Martinsville Speedway. He was a Championship Four contender for JGR in 2019 – his first official year with the team – after moving over when satellite team, Furniture Row Racing closed down at the end of 2018. Truex was NASCAR’s defending champion at the time.

He has 27 career victories and over the past six seasons. Since joining JGR, Truex has driven the No. 19 Camry to eight victories, 29 top-five finishes, 47 top-10s and more than 2,000 laps led.

“I’m happy to get this news out there so we can focus on this season and the future with Joe Gibbs Racing,” said Truex. “This is where I wanted to be and to continue building on the success we have had together the past two years. I appreciate Coach, my team, everyone at JGR and all of our partners like Bass Pro Shops, Auto-Owners Insurance, Reser’s Fine Foods, Stanley Black & Decker and Toyota for making this possible and I look forward to continuing those relationships as we move forward.”
