On the day following each regular season points race, Kickin’ the Tires takes a deep look at the current playoff grids for both the NASCAR XFINITY Series and Camping World Truck Series, evaluating the postseason picture for NASCAR’s second and third tours.

XFINITY Series

Track: ISM Raceway

Event: DC Solar 200

Race Winner: Brad Keselowski

Stage Winner(s): Justin Allgaier, Kyle Busch

Who Won Big

  • Justin Allgaier: For the second-straight year, Allgaier made Phoenix his person playground. The Illinoisan didn’t quite bring home the victory this time, but he claimed a stage and finished second to lead all series regulars.
  • Christopher Bell: He did it again. Bell drove another consistent race, contended for the win late and finished fourth to continue his rise through the Xfinity Series standings. The Oklahoman now sits just eight points behind championship leader Elliott Sadler.
  • Daniel Hemric and Matt Tifft: Richard Childress Racing’s full-time Xfinity duo delivered a pair of solid results in Phoenix, slotting in sixth and seventh and making gains in the point standings. Hemric sits fifth, while Tifft is firmly in 10th.

 Who Hurt Their Odds:

  • Alex Labbe: He had been one of the surprises of the early Xfinity Series season through the first three weeks, but Labbe ran a bit more to expectation in Phoenix. The Canadian finished 22nd in Arizona, dropping to a tie for 14th in the standings.
  • Ross Chastain: A 19th-place run wasn’t terrible for Chastain, but it was enough to drop the veteran out of the current playoff grid. Chastain left Phoenix 13th in the standings, 10 points behind Kaz Grala for 12th.
  • Garrett Smithley: Smithley’s drop down the standings after his Daytona International Speedway surprise continued in Phoenix. The JD Motorsports ace finished 28th, falling to a 29-point deficit on the preliminary playoff grid in 14th.
