As the NASCAR Cup Series season approaches, Kickin’ the Tires takes a look a Roush Fenway Racing’s driver of the No. 17 Ford Mustang, Chris Buescher.

Chris Buescher makes his return to Roush Fenway Racing for the 2020 Cup Series season, a team he spent significant time with earlier in his career.

A Prosper, Texas native, Buescher is no stranger to the Jack Roush organization.

He first joined Roush Fenway Racing as a developmental driver in 2009 and went on to win the 2012 ARCA Series Championship in a partnership with Roulo Brothers Racing.

Additionally, Buescher went on to run a total of 74 races for RFR from 2011 through 2015 in the NXS. In that time span he tallied up three wins, 16 top-five and 36 top-10 finishes. Buescher also won the 2015 championship.

It was announced back in late September that Buescher would re-join the organization, replacing Ricky Stenhouse Jr in the No. 17 Ford Mustang.

In September, Roush said “We are certainly excited to have Chris back in the fold at Roush Fenway Racing. He has a long history with our organization and we’ve always been a big fan of Chris and his racing style.

“We have watched his progress with great interest over the last couple of seasons and we are looking forward to having him in the No. 17 as we continue to grow our program next season.”

Buescher enters 2020 for his sixth overall season at NASCAR’s highest level but his fifth full-time.

In 150 career starts heading into the Daytona 500 he has tallied up one win, four top-five and 12 top-10 finishes.

Additionally, Buescher has two top-five and three top-10 finishes in eight NCS starts at Daytona International Speedway.

A crash in the 2019 season-opener relegated him to a disappointing 37th place finish. However, the previous year he finished the event with a fifth-place finish.
